This movie will lose a lot of people along the way, but then again, as far back as 1962, Ballard wrote a manifesto for a new form of science fiction, Which Way to Inner Space?, in which he insisted that “from now on, most of the hard work will fall, not on the writer, but on the readers. The onus is on them to accept a more oblique narrative style, understated themes, private symbols and vocabularies.” This is exactly what Wheatley wants from his audience.

I used to dance around to Jean Michel Jarre on the record player to his album Equinox when I was 4 years old and still listen to it. now the article finally drove me to listen to Oxygene.
Speaking of musical DNA I wonder if this had any influence on Vangelis for Blade Runner:

There’s a vague similarity but if you listen to the albums Vangelis made in the 70s they all contain sounds and motifs that sound like the Blade Runner music. Vangelis had been working for many years by the time Oxygene appeared, and his personal style was very much in evidence by 1976.
