This is apparently a ‘big deal’ in philosophy and literary critique now, that Lovecraft was a sublimated Cubist, as witnessed here:

Hi Cameron and thanks, people keep referring me to k-punk’s writings. I know (at a distance) a couple of the people mentioned on that page, China and Benjamin Noys who’s written about some of my Lord Horror work with David Britton.
HPL was a Modernist in one sense, which is a somewhat broader definition than Cubism. His writing approach wasn’t Modernist, of course (although I think he praised Eliot) but his attitude was in his efforts to drag horror out of the dust of the 19th century and into the 20th. Lots of food for thought, as you say, and it confirms again his importance for the genre and for literature as a whole.
